Loughrey Family of America

2001 Reunion News

Dear Loughrey Cousins:

Just two more months until the First Gathering of the Clan Loughrey of the new millenium. We are really getting excited!

We have some wonderful ideas and plans. There will be a group tour of the Henry Dorley Zoo and the SAC Museum in Omaha, for those who are interested. This will occur on Friday, June 22, 2001. We will leave the motel at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at the zoo at approximately 9:45 a.m. We will leave the zoo, stop for lunch (on your own), go to the SAC Museum and plan to return to the motel in time for dinner. After dinner, there will be a Genealogy Workshop for those who are interested, in the Hospitality Room.

On Saturday morning, the memorial service will be held at a park overlooking the Missouri River. Prior to the service, breakfast will be served by a Park Ranger, in period clothing. He will give us a brief history of the area. This will be followed by the Memorial Service.

On Saturday afternoon, the business meeting, election of officers and the auction will be held. The banquet will be held on Saturday evening.

The cost of the breakfast will be $5.00 per person and the dinner banquet will be $15.00 per person. Breakfast will be an egg casserole, coffee, orange juice, assorted muffins and bagels. The banquet will be buffet style, with your choice of three meats, potato, vegetable and salad. Dessert is included in the Banquet meal.

Remember, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Crossroads of the Bluffs, in Council Bluffs. The room rates are $55.00 plus tax per night. You may make your reservations any time, by calling (712) 322-3150 or (800) 528-1234. When making your reservations, please indicate that you are with the Loughrey Reunion. The dates are June 20-23, 2001. For easy access, the motel is just off exit 1, Interstate 180 and 129.

There will also be an election of officers, and all terms expire this year. I am Chairman of the Nominating Committee, so I will need the names of anyone you think would be a good officer for the next two years. Our President, Robert Loughrey, has already served two terms, and is more than ready to turn the reins over to someone else.

Please start getting your items together for the auction. These may be items that you have made, items you wish to get rid of, or something you have purchased. A lot of the money brought in by the auction is used for operating expenses. Other than annual dues, this is our only means of income.

Dues are now due for 2001. Please send your check for $15.00 to Lee Gartner, 4947 Garfield Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55409. Make the check payable to the Loughrey Family of America, or LFA.

I would also appreciate receiving short obits of our family members who have passed on since our last gathering in June, 1999 in Dubuque, Iowa. These will be ready and the family members remembered during our Memorial Service.

Please print out our registration form and return it to me at the address below. In order to get as accurate a count as possible, reservations for the meals must be received no later than June 10, 2001. Reunion checks should also be made out to the Loughrey Family of America, or LFA.

Thank you and we are looking forward to seeing you all in Council Bluffs in June!

Sincerely,
Delores B. Loughrey-Nielsen
